The 5 Best Nut Choppers To Make Your Life Easier (2022)

Not long ago, I used to really work my arms hard just to get chopped nuts for my recipes by either trying the Ziploc method to smash those pesky macadamias with a mallet or using a kitchen knife to slice and dice the walnuts. But since I started to make healthier meals, I’ve needed more chopped nuts in my salads and these two methods then became quite a chore. That is when I decided to search the web for the best quality nut choppers.

My search came down to five of the best nut choppers out there, and I would love to share my findings with you. Each one has its own set of advantages and disadvantages, and this list might be worth a look to help you to decide on which one you will choose as your very own nut chopper.

What Do You Need Nut Choppers For?

I know what some of you are thinking: do I need a separate product just for chopping nuts? Look at it this way; if ground or chopped nuts are becoming more and more prevalent in your recipes, then getting a good nut chopper is definitely a wise investment.

As I stated above, I have started to devote myself to healthier eating, and the only way that I can freshen up boring salads is through fresh fruits, light dressings, and nuts, which I definitely need the best chopper for! But that is not all these handy devices are needed for. My signature Pad Thai dish would be incomplete if I did not heap a pile of chopped peanuts on top of those spicy shrimps and rice noodles. With the use of a nut chopper, I can ensure that my peanuts are not only finely ground, but also free of the irregular chunks that you get when using the mallet method.

Your nut chopper can go a really long way. Muffins and certain cupcakes will turn delightful when they are drizzled with chopped or finely ground nuts. Just last month, my vanilla cupcake with mascarpone cheese frosting turned from being meh to simply stunning by just sprinkling some ground almonds on top.

Plus, the higher end nut choppers can do more things than just chop nuts. In my case, I splurged a little extra cash so that I could get a nut chopper that also sliced and diced vegetables. This makes it easier for me to create the fabulous spring salad I always have for my dinner. A good nut chopper will take many minutes off your normal prep time, which is especially valuable when you are just looking for a quick dinner fix after a long day at work.

However, if you are still undecided as to whether you should get a nut chopper and prefer things the old fashioned way, then this video might serve you well. It is an excellent instructional video on how you can chop or ground nuts evenly by using a simple chef’s knife and a cutting board

Buy The Nut Chopper That Best Suits You

When it comes to purchasing nut choppers, it is essential that you do some research first before pulling the trigger. There is no point buying a high-tech device with all the bells and whistles if you don’t need it. The truth is that the simplest, most budget-friendly devices will sometimes do the job better.

For example, during my search, I was tempted to buy an electric nut chopper that can chop, grind, slice, dice, or whatever else you can think of. However, one quick look at the reviews said a lot about its quality. It is safe to say that I probably saved around 70 dollars by dodging that particular bullet.

So to help your search for the best nut chopper in the market, here are the top five ones that I personally rank as the best nut choppers.

1. Best Nut Chopper For People On The Go – Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper

Image from Amazon.com

I have a lot of friends who are such busy bees they seem to never have enough time, and as a result, it is their cooking that usually takes a backseat. This device is perfect for those who do not have the patience for the time-consuming task of preparing all the ingredients. This food chopper will not only chop most vegetables, like pickles, onions, celery, etc…, but also does a great job of chopping nuts. However, the Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper can only do coarse chops. So if you are in need of a fine ground option for your nuts, then it might be best to look at the other devices on the list.

One great thing about this particular chopper is how easy it is to use. Just put your nuts in the upper chamber and press the plunger to get consistently chopped nuts. Best of all, you can also cut vegetables and meat, which makes it easier to cook a full meal quickly.

The Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper easily disassembles for better and more accessible storage. It also dishwasher safe, so you can also chuck it in this machine for added convenience. The design is a bit bland and it’s cheap to look at but I found it surprisingly sturdy when in use. However, it does lack any printed measure marks, which is a deal breaker for me.

This food chopper is a little on the pricey side, but with its slew of tricks, the Pampered Chef Cutting Edge Food Chopper just might be the one for you.

Pros

  • It does a variety of other things besides chopping nuts.
  • Fantastic device when chopping onions (there’ll be no more crying in the kitchen!).
  • Sturdy build and solid design.
  • Easy to use plunger.
  • Very easy to clean because the chopper is dishwasher safe.

Cons

  • There is no fine ground option for nuts.
  • A little bit pricey.
  • No printed measure marks.
  • Has an unappealing design.

2. Best Nut Chopper For Those Who Wants Power – Ninja Express Chop

Image from Amazon.com

Chopping nuts is a breeze if you use any of the products that are on this list. However, there are still those who need to make their chopping chores even faster. If you can spend a bit more money, then the Ninja Express Chop could be the one for you. This one is entirely automatic with a 200-watt power pod that will chop and grind a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and nuts with ease. It can even cut and mince meat with ease.

Chocolate has always been a messy affair for me as it melts easily while being finely chopped. But with this device, you just push down the lid and watch those wicked sharp blades go to town on your favourite chocolate bars.

The Ninja Express Chop is a decent substitute for those who do not have the cash or the storage to get bulkier food processors. This nut chopper is powerful enough on shorter pulses to make shaved ice.

One thing that I do not like about this product, however, is the lid, which gets hard to clean because bits can get stuck on the inside. Also, you have to oversee the one pulse power to make sure that your dice jobs do not turn into purees.

Pros

  • Effortless mincing, dicing, grinding, and pureeing.
  • The product has a beautiful and sleek design.
  • Easy to store.
  • Easily dices and crushes walnuts and almonds.
  • Powerful enough to make shaved ice.
  • It’s not cheap, but it is reasonably priced.

Cons

  • While everything is easy to clean, the inside of the lid, with the motor part, can get a bit messy.
  • It’s a little tough to time the diced ingredients.

3. Best Nut Chopper For All Around Work – Benwish Round Drum Slicer

Image from Amazon.com

If you are like me, then you are always looking for a device that can do an array of things. If you are searching for a nut chopper that can do a whole lot more, then it might be a good idea to give the Benwish Round Drum Slicer a shot. What immediately struck me about this nut chopper is how cute and retro the design is. Call me old fashioned, but there is something utterly charming about how the Benwish Round Drum Slicer looks.

But beneath the cute exterior, there is a slicing beast that is ready to take on your kitchen’s challenges. It comes with three interchangeable blades that can julienne, slice, and grind a slew of fruits and vegetables. This includes tough nuts, like almonds and walnuts. Just put the ingredients that you want sliced or diced in the chamber and then crank the handle. It is easy to use and also extremely effective.

While this nut chopper has a lot of good points, it is not dishwasher safe and the round blade design can get a bit tricky to clean at times. I also found it can get a bit slippery when in use.

One nifty feature the Benwish Round Drum Slicer possesses is its ability to grate cheese. This is not a bad trait to have, especially if you love making pasta and salads.

Pros

  • It does a whole lot more than the average nut chopper (it slices, dices, julienne cuts, grinds, and even grates!).
  • It does a good job making finely ground nuts.
  • The cute retro design is a plus.
  • It is both easy to disassemble and store.

Cons

  • It cannot cut soft ingredients like tomatoes.
  • The product is not dishwasher safe.
  • Bits and pieces can get stuck to the round blades.

4. Best Nut Chopper For Those With Tight Budgets – Prepworks Nut Chopper

Image from Amazon.com

I get it, there are some of you that just don’t want to splurge your money on a device like a nut chopper. The good news is that you don’t have to break the bank in order to find a decent device. One of the best budget nut choppers that impressed me the most is the Prepworks Nut Chopper. First and foremost, it does an excellent job at doing what it’s designed to do: chop nuts! Prepworks has two options, which are finely ground and coarse. While the coarse chop option does a great job, you might need to do the fine ground option two or three times to achieve the right consistency.

The device’s plastic construction is not very sturdy looking and so it looks a little loose and on the cheap side. The non-skid bottom does a decent job of putting the nut chopper in place while you turn the handle during those tough nut-grinding jobs. However, you will need a fair bit of arm strength to keep it down while you go to work if you want to avoid any slippage.

The Prepworks is relatively small and so it’s easy to store. It is also perfect for rushed dinner preps, and the stainless steel blades are easy to clean.

While its quality is not top-notch, this device more than makes up for that with a decent nut chopping performance and a rock-bottom price.

Pros

  • Extremely budget friendly.
  • Decent nut copper for coarse nuts.
  • Non-skid bottom helps to secure the chopper.
  • Small dimensions make it easy to store.
  • Has a suitable 350 ml capacity with printed measure marks.
  • Its stainless steel blades are easy to clean.

Cons

  • Has a cheap looking construction.
  • Loose plastic build.
  • Has a hard time chopping almonds.
  • Its stainless steel blades are a bit flimsy.

5. Best Nut Chopper For Salad Lovers – Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Chopper

Image from Amazon.com

I have friends who still prefer to use a knife to do their chopping, and so this excellent device might be the ideal partner for them. The Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Chopper can chop almost anything and is great at dealing with hard to chop nuts. The shape of this chopper is quite similar to a pizza slicer, which means that you will need to do some manual work to grind those nuts.

The Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Chopper’s utilizes a rocking motion to chop ingredients, which makes it less tiring to use than a traditional kitchen knife. Salads can be whipped up in a snap. You just put your ingredients in a solid glass bowl and start chopping away. This product has a surprisingly sharp stainless steel blade that cuts easily through onions, herbs, chocolates, and nuts. It can even slice soft, watery tomatoes!

Of course, cleaning it up is a breeze. You can easily hand wash it or just toss it into the dishwasher. This gives it a slight advantage over the other nut choppers that need a bit of disassembly.

Chopping nuts is more natural with the Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Chopper than with chef’s knives. However, coarsely chopped nuts will still take a few minutes to do. So, if you have a lot of nut chopping to do, the Checkered Chef Mezzaluna Chopper might not be the right tool for you.

Pros

  • Easy to handle.
  • Can chop almost anything!
  • Easily crushes hard nuts, like almonds.
  • Can make chopped salads quickly.
  • Very easy to clean and store.
  • Has a nice handy sheath to cover the stainless steel blade.
  • Very affordable.

Cons

  • It still takes more effort and energy than the other nut choppers.
  • Not for those who want finely ground nuts.
  • Produces uneven and coarse results.

My Pick

To be perfectly honest, I had a really tough time deciding which of the featured nut choppers to get. It took a lot of research, demonstrations and feedback from my friends before I could arrive at the proper decision. Ultimately, it all came down to the speed and convenience of the devices for me.

I needed a nut chopper that could not only handle being used every day, but also withstand large batches of nuts. So in the end, I decided to get the Ninja Express Chop because of the reasons stated above.

It took me a while to decide between the Ninja’s chopper and the Benwish Round Drum Slicer, mainly because I fell in love with the latter’s cute, retro design. However, the electric motor and power of the Ninja Express Chop provided me with just too much convenience to give up.

All in all, I think I made the right choice as my 7-day salad dinners are now so easy to make!

There’s nothing in this world that excites me more other than cooking. From appetizers to desserts, since then, I’ve always been passionate on making foods.
